venues - clubs
Barfly/The
Monarch
|
Location:
49 Chalk Farm Rd. Chalk Farm Tube.
Hours: 7pm till late Monday to Sunday.
What you pay: £5 + Depending on what
band you’re wanting to see (Info line: 020 7791 4246). |
What
you get: The Barfly/Monarch is relatively new on the
Camden circuit, but has established itself as a cutting edge
venue. It’s tasted the success of bands such as Death
in Vegas, The Doves, Feeder, The Strokes, Coldplay and Muse.
The venue itself doesn’t boast anything special, but has
always seem to display great ‘talent spotting abilities’
and not just on a national scale. Bar Fly Acoustic is an additional
night, which features the best acoustic artists, both local
and out of town. You can hit this place pretty much any night
of the week and expect to see someone on their way up the charts. |
Lock 17 (formerly Dingwalls)

www.lock17.com
|

Middle Yard, Camden Lock. Camden Town Tube.
Hours: Sunday – Thursday 7:30 – Midnight (Downstairs in the venue)
Fri-Sat open till 2am.

between £5-£16 depending on the night), the rest of the venue is free. However, you’ll need to book tickets for the big names beforehand
(ticket line: 0207 4280010)
|
What
you get: Split into four different sections, Dingwalls has a genre
for everyone. The main live part downstairs, has staged bands like The
Coral, The Beta Band, Nora Jones, Goldie and Desmond Decker, but also
offers great Comedy run by Jongleurs, (the biggest Comedy brand in the UK) listing only the best stand up acts. Upstairs in the Market bar, the split Mezzanine level allows you to spread out, chat and enjoy
what’s playing through the speakers. In summer time, it’s great to sit
outside on the terrace beside the lock and observe the activity of the
markets. This place is not only in a great location, but also has a distinctive easy mood about it. |
The Lockout is a monthly music event usually held at this venue which prides itself on showcasing the best new musical talent the UK music scene has to offer. The next Lockout event on October 15th will see 6 more fantastic new acts from all over the UK perform in front of the Lockout audience full of both the music industry and new music lovers. Over the last 6 months we have had artists such as Beth Rowley, Scott Matthews, Grand Avenue, Mamas Gun and Passenger have performed, with Beth, Scott and Mamas Gun now receiving regular radio play and Passenger appearing on a T4 special promoting their new album. Our last show on September 18th saw memorable performances from VV Brown, Gideon Conn The Ryes, helping The Lockout to sell out for the fifth event in a row. For more information on our next event or to book tickets for The Lockout, please visit www.lockoutmusic.com or www.lockouttv.com.

The
Forum

|
Location:
9-11 Highgate Rd. Kentish Town. Kentish Town Tube.
Hours: Monday to Friday and Sundays doors open at various
times depending on the show
Saturdays – Schools Out 4 Ever from 10pm – 2am.
What you pay: Various, depending on whether
a band is playing.
School’s Out 4 Ever - £8, (£6 with flyer before
11pm). |
What
you get:
One of the bigger venues in the area, much like the Palace and
Underworld – The Forum is home to today’s larger
touring acts, both domestic and international. There’s
no specific genre here, you can get tickets for anything from
Mr. Scruff to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, which are all promoted
by Mean Fiddler. But for most big acts, you’ll need to
get tickets prior to the date as they always sell out fast.
However, there is usually a trail of scalpers between Kentish
Town tube and the venue that are willing to buy or sell passes,
but you’ll pay for them, trust me. Saturday night hosts
School’s Out 4 Ever – a mixture of the best of 70’s,
80’s and 90’s classics, drawing in all mature age
students that can’t let go of those schoolyard hits. |

the latest rock you want to see, then the Underworld is your
dream venue. Always hosting bands to the likes of; The Datsuns,
Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, The Offspring, Sheryl Crow
along with top notch local acts. With bands of this calibre,
you’ll obviously need to book tickets before hand. A brilliant
live venue with a killer sound and lighting setup and plenty

every night of the week has a different name and genre. WKD
has also supported a number of World Music events, so you can
expect to discover the latest Eastern/Afro sounds from the outer
reaches of the globe. The R&B styled bar downstairs has
a spacious seating area, perfect for just chatting and drinking,
while upstairs you can let it all out with any of the great
live acts. This is also one of the later closing venues in Camden. |
