Dublin
Castle
 |
Location:
94 Parkway. Camden Town Tube.
Hours: Open 7 Days a week – Every night
till 1:00am, Sundays till 12:00.
What you pay: £5 /£4 concession
(for usually three bands). |
What
you get: The Dublin Castle is the breeding ground for
world renowned Brit-Pop bands - producing acts such as Madness,
Travis, Blur, Stereophonics and 3 Colours Red. You’re
always guaranteed to find great local talent playing every night
of the week in the smoky back room. The cramped and sweaty performance
area offers the true elements of pop and rock history with a
sound system loud enough for a Wembley stadium gig. If you like
it live, loud and sweaty, keep your eyes peeled for the weekly
line-up flyers floating around Camden. |
The
Bull and Gate
|
Location:
389 Kentish Town Rd. Kentish Town Tube.
Hours: 11.00am - 11.30pm, 7 Days a week.
What you pay: £5/£4 concession
– usually 3-4 bands. |
What
you get: The Bull and Gate is a great supporter of
the local live music scene. The sticky carpet back room provides
all the warmth of a big student house. You can expect to see
anything from Prog-Rock to Power Punk within one seating, but
what makes it a great venue is the crowd. No one comes here
for the décor, it’s purely for the support of local
music and with such a cheap cover charge you’re still
guaranteed a night of great entertainment. This is the best
venue in Camden for viewing bands who are just starting out
on the London circuit. |
Fusilier & Firkin
|
Location:
7-8 Chalk Farm Road. Camden Town Tube.
Hours: Tuesday and Wednesday – 7:00 -11:00
Thursday and Friday – 7:00 – 12:00
Saturdays and Sundays – 11:00 – 11:00.
What you pay: Depending on the performance,
you can expect to pay between £4-£6, in the afternoons
it’s free. |
What
you get: A well located venue next to the lock, the
Fusilier and Firkin manages to draw a contrast of folk-heads
and punk & metal crowds. Tuesday's and Wednesday’s
sees the Acoustic Café night, for all those bedroom players
to bring their songs to stage, while Thursdays and Fridays turns
up the volume with original punk and metal bashing. Over weekends
in the afternoon, cover bands will refresh you memory of all
those ska classics. The place is well laid out with an open
stage looking out towards the bar, giving plenty of room for
the sound to filter through the mosh-pit. Long hair, multiple
piercings and anything black is pretty much the dress code.
